Automobile dealers are the bridge between automobile manufacturers and consumers. Car dealers are primarily engaged in retailing new cars, sport utility vehicles, passenger cars and cargo vans. New car dealers employ 9 out of 10 workers in the automobile industry. Along with vehicle sales, car dealers provide and perform other activities such as repair services, selling used cars and selling replacement parts and accessories. Large dealers are a one-stop shop for customers who wish to buy, finance, and service their vehicle. Used car dealers specialize in used vehicle sales and account for 1 out of 10 jobs in the industry.

Sales of new cars, trucks, and vans tend to depend upon changing consumer tastes and the price of fuel. The popularity of the manufacturers vehicle model and the intensity of competition with other dealers play a vital role in the sale of a car. Consumers are also highly sensitive to the cost of financing. Automotive dealers are more likely to offer generous incentives, rebates, and financing deals during sluggish periods to maintain high sales volumes and to reduce stocks.

According to the National Automobile Dealers Association, new vehicle sales account for more than half of the total sales proceeds at contracted new car and new truck dealers. These sales generate additional revenue in other departments of the dealerships. By putting new vehicles on the road, dealers count on after-market additions, repairs, and service for added revenue.

Leasing a car or truck is one financing option for consumers. Leasing services have grown in recent years to accommodate changing consumer-purchasing behavior. As vehicles have become more expensive, growing numbers of consumers are unable or reluctant to make a long-term investment in a new car or truck purchase. Car dealers are a key resource for manufacturers who use them to establish brands and motivate customers to purchase their automobiles.

You may not have any experience in changing tyres, so knowing when to do so could be difficult without a proper inspection. If you dont feel comfortable diagnosing the problem prior to changing tyres, then a professional can help. However, determining how to change a tyre can be quite easy.

One sign that can tell you its time to change your tyres is by how well they are performing. One example could be that your car, which usually handles well in poor weather conditions, is suddenly not handling as well. Another is that it takes longer to stop when you brake.

A tyres tread should not be worn beyond the legal limit, which is a minimum limit of 1.6 millimeters. Most tyre manufacturers mould T.W.I, or tread wear indicators, right into the tyres tread pattern, usually at 1.6 millimeters. When the tyre is worn to the T.W.I, then it should be replaced.

Tyre wear can be caused by several factors, not just through age and use. Emergency braking, under- or over-inflation, and migalignment can cause them to wear. Once a tyre is worn to, or even past its legal limit, changing tyres is a must.

To avoid wearing out your tyres too early, check to see if your tyres are properly inflated. To do so you will need a few simple tools.

You will need a tyre pressure gauge to check the tyres pressure. This can be either mechanical or electronic, or can even use a pump with a gauge built right in. You can also opt to by a small compressor that powers through your cars cigarette lighter. They are great for saving time and effort, but make sure to avoid buying a cheap one. They dont work as well, and often break very quickly.

If youve done all your checks, but your tyres are still in bad shape, then changing tyres is inevitable. But dont worry, the process can be done easily and quickly with just a few tips.

Before you begin changing tyres, you should check to see that your cars jack is there, you have a properly inflated spare tyre, you have a lug wrench that properly fits your wheel, and you also have the correct lug bolts.

Once you have safely parked your car, make sure you put a couple of bricks or large stones beneath the tyres to ensure that it doesnt roll or move. Bring the jack, spare tyre, and lug wrench to where you will be changing tyres.

Begin byremoving the hubcap/plate and loosening the nuts prior to jacking up the car to prevent the wheels spinning on you. Turn them counterclockwise to loosen until it comes off. Once this is done, you can jack up the car.

Remove the old tyre. Since you have already taken out the lug nuts, pull it with your weight forward in order to prevent you from falling backward.

Now you are ready to put the new tyre on. Adjust the tyre in the threaded shafts so they fit. Then you can replace the lug nuts, tightening them in the proper order.

Once this is done you can lower the jack so that they tyres are once again resting on the ground. Lastly you can replace the hubcap or plate.

Changing tyres can be hard the first time you try, but once you get the hang of it, it will be easier and easier each time you do it.

Television has taken on an entirely new look and feel, even in the past decade. What was once an industry based on three major networks with very limited programs in the 1950′s has erupted into many major networks and thousands of cable channels available throughout the world in every imaginable language. Television has truly become a three-dimensional experience for producers, directors, project coordinators and other professionals in the industry, not to mention a multi-dimensional experience for viewers. With a variety of genres and styles of programming available, from news programs and specials to different types and lengths of commercials, sit-coms, dramas, reality programs, game shows and countless others, being someone involved in television production is both wrought with opportunity and teeming with challenges.

Finding inexpensive background music and production music for television programs can be much more difficult than finding it for other types of media projects because the medium is so diversified and so societally pervasive. As a director or producer of television programs looking for ear-catching television music for your show, you have to be very cognizant of not only your target audience, but also what you are up against in your allotted time slot. Sometimes whether a show succeeds or fails has nothing to do with its quality. Success in television programming has more to do with what you are up against and the time and day your program airs. If you are producing a talk show, for example, you might be on at the same time as more than five or ten other talk shows. Or your program might conversely be when no other talk shows are on television, but at a time when typically people are more likely to watch news programs, Sit-coms or other types of programming.

Still, choosing the right television music can certainly help you make the most out of your particular project. Again, because of the diverse nature of television, there are many different types of production music and background music to choose from. There is music for commercials, music for dramas, music for news programs and specials, music for sit-coms and many others. As a producer of a television show, you probably also will have to consider how your music will blend in with the music of commercials that might air during your broadcast. Because the line between commercials and programming has been blurred, starting in the 1960′s commercials have become an integral part of all television shows, sometimes not only on network television but also on cable television. Before the mid-1960′s, commercials used to have to be signaled in all television programs by an announcement that they would begin. Similarly, announcers were responsible for signaling the return of the regular program. Now, there is not always any clear sign where the show ends and the commercial begins or vice versa. It’s all about the timing.

Because Copyright Law has become stricter to account for the proliferation of diverse recorded music, finding and affording production music and background music for television programming has been further complicated. Before the 1980s, music in commercials and even on many television programs was limited to jingles and transitional music, most of which was instrumental or with very brief and simple vocals. Occasionally lyrics to popular music would be changed to fit a particular product or the theme for a show, a phenomenon that would not work easily or cheaply under today’s copyright standards, and didn’t come inexpensively then either. Still, while some pop and rock songs were re-recorded for television programs and commercials, the cost of licensing original recordings was very daunting until the late 1980s when it became more doable.

Today commercials use many popular songs as background music and production music, and many programs, particularly those geared towards young people use popular music regularly in an effort to promote burgeoning music groups. Television has become such a cultural phenomenon and a showcase for music that many shows, including “Dawson’s Creek” and “The O.C.” have even gone on to put out music compilations based on music heard in episodes of the show throughout specific seasons. Previously, songs were often used without artist consent, but thanks to stricter Copyright Law this is no longer a possibility. Still, most artists are willing to accept often high payment for use of their songs in popular television programs and enjoy the exposure they get as a result to very specific markets made up of people that will buy music they make in the future.

Using popular music in television programs and commercials can be incredibly expensive for the typical producer and director. Whether your show is a hit with a large budget, or a smaller show just starting out, you want to make an impact musically at minimal cost, as there are so many other elements to consider in the production of television projects. Fees for use of popular music can total thousands of dollars, and when you multiply that by how often you will probably use songs as themes, production music, background music and other incidental elements, the numbers can add up quickly. But, even though you want to save money on television music, you certainly don’t want to skimp on quality.

What are your options when it comes to production music and background music for your television projects if you want to build a collection inexpensively and still honor the spirit of your project?

As a producer or director of television programs, you most likely travel in circles of artists and musicians. You might know some good composers or bands, or people you know might know some that would be happy to help with music for your project. Because of the almost culturally invasive nature of television, most struggling musicians or composers would not object to helping you out with your project in exchange for exposure and the chance to work on something beyond the norm. Many bands have been launched when their song was chosen as a theme song for a television series, and many composers have broken into the film, television and music industry after working on scores for television programs.

Finding under-appreciated talent in your network is a good option and often one that could help get you a deal on production music or background music, but it is by no means a simple solution, nor one that is long-term. If your show is a hit, or your theme song or the band that sings it is a hit, you will be morally, if not legally obligated to pay more for the music you are using. This either leads to the same problem you had before of expensive music or back to square one, looking for inexpensive television music.

Another option for inexpensive production music, and one that more producers and directors are choosing every day, is royalty free music provided by reputable music companies. Choosing royalty free music allows you access to a catalog of music in varying styles and can be downloaded directly from a centralized royalty free music company website online. Well-known companies such as Royalty Free Music.com give you music libraries with songs you can add permanently to a collection. This means you can build your own store of production music and use it in present and future projects. And because of the nature of the music, you just pay a very low upfront fee to satisfy all aspects of Copyright Law.

Television production gets more complex as time and technology progresses, but directors and producers will never lose the ability to control what production music and background music fits best with their projects. Television music is critical to keeping a program or a commercial at the top of its game, and helps communicate important themes to viewers. As a producer, director or project coordinator, the musical choices you make are some of the most important decisions.

Back during the 1980s when Mercedes introduced its first baby Mercedes, the car was received with mixed reviews. Motorists loved the car, now a C series model, as it made a Mercedes automobile affordable for the middle class. On the other hand, critics worried that the esteemed Mercedes-Benz name would suffer as a car touching the price level of many ordinary American models would soon become part of the line up. Today, even smaller Mercedes are planned for the US market. Will this be a huge mistake for the German automaker or is Mercedes incorporating smart thinking?

To the surprise of many Americans, the Mercedes brand isnt as pompous or pretentious in Europe as it is in the U.S. Crafty Mercedes-Benz marketing over the years has presented an image of Mercedes as being an ultra-luxury automobile line, a truly superb benchmark from which all other cars are measured. In some respects this image is true, but in reality Mercedes goes well beyond such a narrow definition.

In the European market, Mercedes is known for producing these same high quality luxury cars, but also for producing vehicles that are much more attainable for the masses. Even right now Mercedes sells four models in Europe that are uncharacteristically Mercedes type vehicles, at least for the American market:

Viano A minivan of sorts, the vehicle can hold as many as eight people and is powered by either a pair of inline four cylinder engines or a 3.5L I6.

Vaneo A compact van with seating for as many as seven adults. The Vaneo features a sloping roof that quickly drops off to a rear hatch. Powered by 1.6L or 1.9L I4 gasoline engines or a 1.7L diesel.

B Series Mercedes answer to the Volkswagen Golf is its own B Series.of automobiles. This five door hatchback, which also looks a lot like a Toyota Matrix, comes with six engine choices: four gas engines starting with a 1.5L I4 up to a 2.0L turbocharged four, and two diesels.

A Series Even smaller than the B Series is the A Series, three or five door hatchback models about the size of a Toyota Echo. Thats right, a teeny tiny Mercedes! The same six engines offered with the B Series are offered in the A Series plus one additional diesel for a total of seven engine choices!

Prices for the A Series starts around $23,000 when current British to American currency exchange figures are factored in to nearly $29,500 for the B Series. The Vaneo and Viano would sell at around $25,550 and $39,800 respectively if todays European prices were carried over to the U.S.

So, what does Mercedes have in mind? They are hoping to introduce the B Series to the U.S. market by 2007. Is this a wise decision?? In my opinion it has worked well in Europe, however it would be better for Mercedes to create a new make of cars to include the B Series. Much like Toyota has spun off both Lexus and Scion, Mercedes would be better served by creating a separate down market brand in order to uphold the Mercedes name.

No, there isnt anything shameful about any of these small vehicles in fact, they are a wise idea however, decades of marketing in the U.S. can certainly be undone overnight by the introduction of any vehicle smaller than the C Series to the Mercedes line up. No car as small as the B Series would wear a Lexus nameplate, so why should a car of this type wear the Mercedes moniker?

As I said, this is just my opinion. What are your thoughts?

I have existed and survived for decades and decades now. Though there has been several medium swarming in the community, my value cannot be understated.

At first, I was used as a medium to carry simple notes and keep relatives and friends connected. I can break distance, run a mile, swim across oceans and fly underneath the horizon to give your dear ones timely message and the usual his and hellos.

As years pass by, I was a bit depressed by the fact that I almost was forgotten by the people who once adored me. They shifted to the modern means made available for them. This fact made me sad. I was there longing for the attention to return by all means.

To my delight, the discovery of incorporating pictures and images gave me my most wanted return to the limelight. With the innovation, I looked stunning and entertaining. Landscape, seascape, still life name it, I got them in my face. Funny, inspirational, satirical, enthrallingwhoa! I can handle them all!

Nowadays, I still am embracing the limelight. Savvy businessmen and marketers are using me for improved purposes like advertising and promotions. I was instantly converted into a multi-purpose work of art.

To keep my aficionados, I would like to advice them several things about postcard printing and mailing. This is my way of thanking them

First, do repeat postcard mailing. One big shot is not enough. Hence, continuous boost is indispensable.

Second, choose not according to price but quality. The best price does not entail the best catch. Ask around to form a good choice of postcard printing and mailing services.

Third, in doing marketing through postcards, better not have them enclosed in envelopes. Making them readily open can make your message more accessible to more.

Fourth, promote singly. In one postcard design, promote only one product or service. This is to avoid vagueness and confusion. This will also encourage retention.

Finally, using me in your marketing strategy can be the be-all and end-all marketing tool. Get that moving change.

Dental implants are ideal to replace broken or damaged teeth. Be advised that these dental implants can be a costly procedure as well as lengthy procedure.

Typically, dental implants have a starting cost around $1000 dollars for each tooth. If you have dentures, bridges, broken or damaged teeth dental implants could be a great investment for your smile. This procedure has very low failure rates. If a failure was to occur, chances are that there was an undetected bacterial infection during the install of the implant.

Timeframes needed to complete the dental implant procedure have a few contributing factors. One such factor is state of the jawbone. If the doctor needs more jawbone to work with, bone grafting may be required. This process must be completed and healed before the dental implant can be installed.

Osseointegration is a process where a titanium post is screwed into the jawbone. This must be left for 3-6 months so that the bone can fuse around it. A plate style implant may be used between the gum and the jawbone if the bone integrity is not ideal.

Once the healing has completed, the doctor will make a cast of the mouth. Then a ceramic tooth will be made to match the existing shape and color of the teeth.

It is always advisable to consult your dentist regarding dental implants. In some cases, they may be able to offer you a finance plan to have the procedure done. Be sure to ask any and all questions about dental implants with your.

If you feel a little intimidated about exercising with men in a big sweat-infused gym room, consider joining a ladies fitness club. Dont worry- not all the ladies in the club are trim and physically fit. Thats why theyre there. Youll find ladies of all shapes and sizes at the gym, and youll make some wonderful friends.

If you have a buddy that you can go with – talking during the exercise makes the time go by much faster, and the accountability is helpful on those days you dont feel like dragging yourself to the club.

One benefit of working out at a gym is that you have trainers who can show you how to do the exercises correctly. People can spot you during some exercises, if necessary, and guide you in correct form and to avoid injuries.

Another benefit is that you will usually find a large number of exercise machines that you may not be able to afford yourself. If you tried to stock your basement or garage with the same equipment, youd run out of space and spend thousands of dollars, to boot.

Downsides include the cost of a membership. While it can be costly, if you go as many times as possible/practical during your week, you lower the effective per visit cost. If your schedule doesnt allow you to exercise during the time the club is open, it might be better to find another club or another mode of exercise.

Some people are intimidated about exercising in form of others and prefer the privacy of home. If you can move past this and realize that no one is watching you and that everyone looks just like you when theyre on the same machine you are, youll derive great benefit from a gym membership.

Try to find a health club as close to your home as possible. If you have to drive very far to get to the club, youre likely to find less time to make the trip. Youll find on cold winter days that its preferable to take a nap over driving to a gym and having to drive back home when youre done.

Many gyms will allow you to come in and try out the machines for a few days before deciding on joining. This is a very good way of getting the feel for a place and seeing if you like the style of workout youll get. Youll also be able to ascertain the mood of the gym and what sort of music they play, etc. This may seem like a small thing, but it can make a big difference in your workout and energy levels while there.

Another option is to find a fitness trainer. This person can help you do your exercises correctly and can also show you different ways to do exercise in case youre in pain or pregnant. When looking for a trainer, you want to ask where they were certified (and check the certification paperwork). Look for someone with whom you feel comfortable. A good trainer will explain things and is patient as you learn.

Rock collecting wasn’t part of the plan. Neither was arrowhead hunting. Then we met Felix. He was a Mayan Indian, he told us, whose family had migrated from Mexico. Now he was living in an old RV. He was there to enjoy the hot springs, like us. The Arizona desert has more than just hot springs hidden in it though.

We shared meals and campfires for a week, and then he took my wife Ana and I into the desert to show us ancient metates (grain-grinding stones) and arrowheads. In addition, we found Apache Tears, Fire Agate, and hundreds of other beautiful rocks of every type. They were just laying scattered in the desert once he showed us the right places.

Irina, a nineteen-year-old self-described “rainbow kid,” who had been living in her van for months, rode with Felix in his old pickup. Ana and I followed in our van. Two hours at the first stop yeilded many beautiful rocks, and a few pieces of ancient pottery. The recent rain had made the rocks and artifacts stand out, washing them clean.

Ana and Irina found odd pieces that might have been arrowheads. The old pottery pieces I found couldn’t compare with Felix’s half of a pot painted with an intricate design. Most likely, it was hundreds of years old. Felix was always seeing things we missed.

Arrowhead Hunting

Felix showed us ruins of an old Pony Express station. Long-forgotten and unmarked, the grass-and-mud-block walls were still partially standing. I looked aound, and realized the we still hadn’t seen one other car. There are some isolated areas in Arizona. Because Felix insisted the building would have been fired upon by arrows, we started arrowhead hunting around the ruins.

Behind the ruins, and up the hill, Felix showed us rocks with six-inch wide holes in them. They were a foot deep or more, perfectly round, and filled with water. Water storage had been their purpose, he explained, and he and Irina drank the water collected in them. We like fewer bugs in our water, so we just enjoyed this peaceful spot, and watched the valley below.

We had some luck searching for rocks and arrowheads, but not like Felix. We did find hundreds of pieces of pottery, but all very plain looking. Felix found pottery that had beautiful designs on it, and metates. He also found a tiny, perfectly made, clear quartz arrowhead. It had probably been used to hunt small birds two hundred years earlier.

We each wandered a bit, and later, one by one, returned to the van to cook beans with instant rice on our camp stove. Then we said our goodbyes, and traded addresses. Felix and Irina went back to the hotsprings, while we headed the other way with bags of rocks, an antelope antler, and two broken arrowheads.

Notes:

You can look for arrowheads and ancient pottery, but it may be illegal to keep any artifacts now. Go out after a rain and you can see Fire-agate and Apache Teardrops laying on the sand. There are some designated rockhound areas in southeastern Arizona. The BLM office in Safford can give you more information on where to go for the best rock collecting.

About 25 years ago I began formulating pet foods at a time when the entire pet food industry seemed quagmire and focused on such things as protein and fat percentages without any real regard for ingredients. Since boot leather and soap could make a pet food with the “ideal” percentages, it was clear that analytical percentages do not end the story about pet food value. I was convinced then, as I am now, that a food can be no better than the ingredients of which it is composed. Since this ingredient idea has caught on in the pet food industry, it has taken on a commercial life that distorts and perverts the meaning of the underlying philosophy of food quality and proper feeding practices. Is health reducible to which ingredients a commercial product does or does not have? As contradictory as it may seem to what I have just said, no it is not. Here’s why.

AAFCO Approval

The official Publication of the American Association of Feed Control Officials (AAFCO) gives wide latitude for ingredients that can be used in animal foods. As I have pointed out in my book, The Truth About Pet Foods, approved ingredients can include*:

dehydrated garbage

undried processed animal waste products

polyethylene roughage replacement (plastic)

hydrolyzed poultry feathers

hydrolyzed hair

hydrolyzed leather meal

poultry hatchery by-product

meat meal tankage

peanut hulls

ground almond shells

(*Association of American Feed Control Officials, 1998 Official Publication)

Simultaneously, this same regulatory agency prohibits the use of many proven beneficial natural ingredients that one can find readily available for human consumption such as bee pollen, glucosamine, L-carnitine, spirulina and many other nutraceuticals. It would be easy to conclude that reason does not rule when it comes to what officially can or cannot be used in pet foods.

From the regulators’ standpoint, they operate from the simplistic nutritional idea that the value of food has to do with percentages and that there is no special merit to any particular ingredient. They deny the tens of thousands of scientific research articles proving that the kind of ingredient and its quality can make all the difference in terms of health. They also are silent about the damaging effect of food processing and the impact of time, light, heat, oxygen and packaging on nutritional and health value.

The 100% Complete Myth

Consumers are increasingly becoming alert to the value of more natural foods. Everyone intuitively knows that the closer the diet is to real, fresh, wholesome foods, the better the chance that good health will result. Unfortunately, people do not apply this same common sense to pet foods. Instead they purchase “100% complete” processed foods, perhaps even going the extra mile and selecting “super premium” or “natural” brands, thinking they are doing the best that can be done. They surrender their mind to a commercial ploy (100% completeness) and do to their pets what they would never do to themselves or their family – eat the same packaged product at every meal, day in and day out. No processed food can be “100% complete” because there is not a person on the planet who has 100% knowledge of nutrition. The claim on its face is absurd. Understanding this simple principle is more important than any pet food formulation regardless of the merits of its ingredients. Everything that follows will begin with that premise, i.e., no food should be fed exclusively on a continuous basis no matter what the claims of completeness or ingredient quality.

Genetics Is The Key

Pets need the food they are biologically adapted to. It’s a matter of context. Just as a fish needs to be in water to stay healthy, a pet needs its natural food milieu to be healthy. All creatures must stay true to their design. What could be more obvious or simple? For a carnivore the correct genetic match is prey, carrion and incidental fresh plant material, and even some fur and feathers, as well as the occasional surprise of unmentionables found in decaying matter. It’s not a pretty picture to think that “FiFi” with her pink bow and polished toenails would stoop to such fare, but that is precisely the food she is designed to eat. Since that is her design, matching food to that design (minus the more disgusting and unnecessary elements) is also the key to her health.

The Disease Price

We may prefer to feed a packaged, sterile, steam- cleaned, dried, farinaceous chunk cleverly shaped like a pork chop, but let’s not kid ourselves, that is not the food a pet is designed for….regardless of the claims about ingredients on the label making one think it is five-star restaurant fare. Pets may tolerate such food for a time, but in the end nature calls to account. The price to be paid is lost health in the form of susceptibility to infections, dental disease, premature aging, obesity, heart and organ disease, diabetes, cancer, arthritis and other cruel and painful chronic degenerative diseases. Because our pets are not out in the rigors of nature where they would quickly succumb to such conditions and end their misery, they languish in our protected homes and under veterinary care that does not usually cure but merely treats symptoms and extends the time of suffering. That suffering begins with the way in which we are feeding our pets, not the ingredients in a supposed 100% complete pet food.

The Perfect Food

What is the solution? It is simple and something I have been preaching for the past 25 years. Return pets to their environmental roots. They need – daily – interesting activity, fresh air, clean water, romps in nature, lots of love, and food as close to the form they would find in the wild as possible. Fresh, whole natural foods fit for a carnivore and fed in variety are as good as it can get. Anything less than that is a compromise. Compromise the least if health is the goal. (Same principle applies to you and your family.) To get a packaged food as close as possible to that goal requires the right starting philosophy of feeding (described above) and the expertise to design and manufacture such foods.

Enter The Profiteers

Elements of these principles (often distorted or misunderstood) have been taken up by an endless line of pet food entrepreneurs. The low fat craze led to low fat pet foods. The high fiber craze led to high fiber pet foods. The “no corn, wheat or soy” craze led to no corn, wheat or soy pet foods. The “omega- 3″ craze led to pet foods with fish oil. The “variety” craze led to pet foods supposedly offering variety. The “four food groups” craze led to all four bundled into a package. The “raw” craze has led to raw frozen pet foods. The list is endless and the race for pet owner dollars is at a fever pitch.

One can only feel sympathy for a concerned pet owner as they stroll along the huge array of pet food options in pet food aisles. Unfortunately, armed with only sound bites and lore they may have heard from a friend, breeder, veterinarian or on a commercial, they make choices that not only do not serve the health of their pet but may directly contribute to weakened immunity and disease.

The first thing consumers should keep in mind is the ideal diet for pets as described above. No packaged product regardless of its wild claims is ever going to equal that. The next best thing is to home prepare fresh meals. (Contact Wysong for recipes and instruction.) If that is not always possible, then products should be selected that are as close to the ideal as possible. (More suggestions below.)

Raw Frozen Pet Food Dangers

At first glance, considering the perfect feeding model I have described – raw, natural, whole – the best food may seem to be one of the raw frozen pet foods now clamoring to capture the “raw” craze. I’m sorry to say that some of these purveyors even use my books and literature to convince pet owners that their frozen products are on track. They take bits and pieces of good information and distort it into something that pretty much misses the point and misleads consumers. Also, these exotic frozen mixtures of ingredients of unknown origin, manufacturing and freezing conditions are most certainly not economical nor the best choice. They may, because of the water content and raw state, be outright dangerous.

Human Grade

Then there are claims about “USDA approved” ingredients, “human grade” ingredients and ingredients purchased right out of the meat counter at the grocery store. Again, at first glance – and superficiality is what marketers like to deal with – it may seem that such foods would have merit over others. But such labels only create a perception of quality. People would not consider the food pets are designed for in the wild – whole, raw prey and carrion – “human grade” or “USDA approved.” Because something is not “human grade” does not mean it is not healthy or nutritious. For example, chicken viscera is not “human grade” but carries more nutritional value than a clean white chicken breast. Americans think that chicken feet would not be fit for human consumption but many far eastern countries relish them. On the other hand, “human grade” beef steaks fed to pets could cause serious nutritional imbalances and disease if fed exclusively. Pet foods that create the superficial perception of quality (USDA, human grade, etc.) with the intent of getting pet owners to feed a particular food exclusively is not what health is about.

Pet Nutrition Is Serious Health Science

Pet nutrition is not about marketing and who can make the most money quickly. Unfortunately an aspiring pet food mogul off the street can go to any number of private label manufacturers and have a new brand made. These manufacturers have many stock formulas that can be slightly modified to match the current market trend. Voilà! A new pet food wonder brand is created.

Pet foods are about pet nutrition, and nutrition is a serious health matter. There is an implied ethic in going to market with products that can so seriously impact health. But the ethic is by and large absent in the pet food industry. Starting with the 100% claim and on to all the fad driven brands that glut the shelves, health is not being served. Nobody other than our organization is teaching people the principles I am discussing here. Instead, companies headed by people with no real technical, nutritional, food processing or health skills put themselves out to the public as serious about health … because that is what the public wants to hear and what sells. Never mind whether producers really understand or can implement healthy principles. The façade sells and selling is the game. Ingredients are important, true, but not less important than the expertise and principles of the producer who is choosing them, preparing, storing, processing and packaging them. Consumers place a lot of trust that nondescript processed nuggets are what consumers are being led to believe they are. Many a slip can occur between the cup and the lip. There are many slips that can occur between the cup of commercial claims and what ends up in the lips of the pet food bowl.

Consumer Blame

The consumer is not without guilt in this unfortunate – steady diet of processed pet food – approach to pet feeding. They want everything easy and inexpensive. They don’t want to learn or have to expend too much effort, and they want something simple to base decisions on like: “corn, wheat and soy are evil,” or “USDA approved,” or “human grade” or “organic is good.” They also want something for nothing and think they can get it in a pet food. People want prime choice meats, organic and fresh foods all wrapped up tidy in an easy open, easy pour package, hopefully for 50 cents a pound. They may even pay $1 or a little more if the producer can convince them about how spectacular their product is or how much cancer their pet will get if they choose another brand.

Are By-Products Evil?

In the processing of human foods there are thousands of tons of by-products that cannot be readily sold to humans. Does that make them useless or even inferior? No. Such by-products could include trimmings, viscera, organs, bones, gristle and anything else that humans do not desire. Should these perfectly nutritious items be buried in a landfill? As I mentioned above, while Earth’s resources continue to decline and people starve around the globe, should we feed our pets only “human grade” foods and let perfectly edible – and sometimes even more nutritious – by-products go to waste? How is that conscionable or justifiable for either the consumer or the producer?

Road Kill and Euthanized Pets

This shift to “human grade” for pet foods is partly due to a variety of myths that have gotten much stronger legs than they deserve. Lore has spread in the marketplace that road kill and euthanized pets are used in pet foods. I have never seen the proof for this outrageous claim and after twenty years surveying ingredient suppliers I have never found a supplier of such. However, fantastic myths easily get life and the more fantastic they are the more life they have. It’s the intellectually lazy way and what lies at the root of so much misery. Sloppy superficial thinking is what leads to racism, sexism, religious persecution and wars. People would like to think the world is sharply divided into right-wrong, good-evil, black-white. Marketers capitalize on this by trying to create such sharp distinctions for consumers to easily grab on to: human grade = good/all others = evil; organic = right/all others = wrong; rice = white/corn and wheat = black. Such simplistic and naïve distinctions are quick and simple for advertisers and salespeople to use to sway public opinion. But nobody stepping back and using common sense would ever think that something as complex as health could ever come from what is or is not in a processed bag of food. Reality is not black or white; it is in shades of gray. Grayness requires some knowledge, judgment and discernment before making choices. It’s a little more work but is what we all must do if the world is ever to be a better place and people and pet health are to improve.

What To Do

How do concerned pet owners wanting to cut through all the marketing clutter negotiate a path? It is very simple if the basic principles I have discussed above are kept in mind. Here are tips on how to implement an intelligent health and feeding philosophy:

1. Learn how to feed fresh food. Alternate these with honest processed foods fed in variety, and complement these foods with well- designed supplements.

[How To Apologize To Your Pet]

http://www.wysong.net/PDFs/apology_pamphlet.pdf

Don’t get all particular and paranoid about balancing nutrients and ingredient do’s and don’ts. Rotate, vary, mix it up and fast once in a while. Trust in nature, not some marketing hype. (Use the same principles for yourself and your family if you want optimal health as well.)

2. If you must have human grade or organic foods for your pet, go buy the real thing at the grocery meat counter. Take it home, cut it up and feed it raw. Freeze the remainder into small meal portions and use them for subsequent meals. Don’t turn your brain off and go buy “organic” or “human grade” pet foods that for their cost could only contain hints of the real thing. Pet food manufacturers may be clever at marketing, but they are not magicians. One thing is certain; they do not buy ingredients and then sell them to you for less than what they buy them for.

3. Use appropriately designed supplements such as Call Of The Wild™ and Wild Things™ to balance raw meals and help make them safe if you are not skilled at such meal preparation.

4. The best raw, processed food alternative to fresh foods from the grocer is non-thermally processed dry foods – not raw frozen ones. (See Wysong Archetype™.) Use this food for alternate meals and as top dressing to heat processed foods.

5. Check the credentials of the person making the decisions in the company whose products you buy. Don’t go to a plumber for brain surgery and don’t expect serious healthy products from business people.

6. Steer away from brands that are pushing any particular hot buttons such as “natural,” “no by- products,” exotic ingredients (quail eggs, watermelon, persimmons, etc.), organic, omega-3, rice and the like. Although these features may bring some merit to a food (if they are put in at other than “pinch” levels), they are not an end in themselves and if the packaged food is fed exclusively can cause more harm than good.

7. Steer away from brands that fear monger. For example, there is the no corn or wheat scam – “buy our brand; it has no corn or wheat.” (Just saying a product has “no” something is enough to scare the non-thinking public to the brand that doesn’t have the boogeyman ingredient. Profiteers know this and play it to the hilt in the pet food industry.) The truth is, grains are put in dried nugget foods because they contain the starch necessary for the extrusion process. Starch is pretty much starch regardless of whether it comes from corn, wheat, rice, potatoes, millet or whatever. Grains also help decrease the cost of pet foods. They contribute some nutrition but in a properly formulated meat-based pet food the majority of the nutritional value comes from the meat. It is true that animals may develop allergy to corn or wheat but that can happen with rice or any other grain or ingredient as well. Problems are prevented by varying the diet. That is why Wysong has developed the range of formulations it has and puts them in small portion packs so the foods can be rotated. Of all the Wysong formulations, the ones with corn are chosen on almost a 5:1 ratio over all others and are the diets we receive the thousands of raves about, even in those pets supposedly allergic to corn!

[Wysong Testimonials]

This is not to tout the merit of corn, or any grain in pet food for that matter. They are sort of a necessary evil in dried extruded foods and any of them can bring some benefit if rotated in the diet.

8. Do not feed any product exclusively. Variety is the spice of nutrition and the road to good health.

9. Features to look for in a packaged product would be those that bring the product close to the raw-whole-fresh-natural standard described above: active enzymes, probiotics cultures, natural preservation and protection against food-borne pathogens, proper packaging, intelligent formulation and balance, micronutrient dense, freshly produced, fresh ingredients – and the expertise to do all of this, not just say so on a package or brochure. (Some brands trying to get on the raw food bandwagon make outright false claims about “cold” processing.)

10. The company should be able to intelligently explain what they are doing in terms of processing, packaging, product preservation and prevention of food-borne pathogens. It is one thing to simply put a certain ingredient into a food, quite another to protect it until it is consumed. For example, Wysong owns its own manufacturing facilities in order to go beyond industry standard techniques. Special portion pack, light- and oxygen- barrier bags, modified atmosphere flush and natural ingredients to prevent oxidation and food- borne pathogens are part of all Wysong products. (See technical monographs on Packaging, Antioxidants and Wyscin™.)

11. Most important, learn. Support a company that helps you learn the truth and teaches you how to be at least somewhat independent of commercial products. Demand that producers provide proof for their claims in the form of good logic, evidence and science. Try to discern the company’s true motives, your pocketbook or your pet’s health. Diving can be a truly spectacular hobby, and many people now go on holidays especially to go diving in some of the worlds best spots Australias Great Barrier Reef, for example, or South Americas Galapagos Islands, among many others. What these dive sites have in common is spectacular marine animals, with sharks being a particular favourite, as well as colourful coral and other interesting marine plants.

To go diving, first you need a qualified instructor and access to scuba apparatus. It is a good idea to learn the basics of diving in your home country before you travel a long way to go diving, as you will have more fun in exotic locations if you have at least some idea in advance what youre doing.

The most popular diving holidays are often live-aboards, which means that you live onboard the dive boat for the entire duration of the trip. This allows you to save both on accommodation and on the cost of diving, as well as being a unique place to stay. However, be careful to travel light, and take a short trip on a boat first to see whether you get seasick youll have no fun on a live-aboard if you do.

There are lots of other things to be careful of if you do decide to go diving. For one, you need to make sure not to come up too fast, as sudden changes in water pressure can be harmful to the body. You also need to be careful about the heat of the water you dive in (it shouldnt be drastically different from body temperature), and about wearing a wetsuit to avoid getting stung by the many underwater creatures and plants that can give you a nasty scratch. Dont worry too much though: as long as you pick a good diving school, your instructor should go through all the risks with you thoroughly, and give you all the equipment and knowledge that you will need to avoid them.

Many people come online for the sole purpose of seeking out a way to earn an income online? Can it be done, seriously? Of course it can.

Thousands of people are doing just that. You can find lots of tutorials out there (free and paid) that give you the nuts and bolts about earning an income online.

I’m going to go a somewhat different direction in this article.

What many people try to do is set up their business like a traditional business. Perhaps they want to have consulting service. If they are graphics designers, they set up a graphics shop. If they are gardeners, they set up a gardening service online.

But there are a few problem with the traditional approach.

* No momentum. You stop putting in effort. Business dries up. No one really cares if you’re gone. There’s always someone else ready and eager to take your place in the niche.

* You have to do it all – all the time. Each new client needs to be given your full time and devotion.

You should consider enhancing your business with methods and tools that will let you overcome these two problems.

You may have heard that you should start building a list of people who desire to receive your emails.

The reason you want to do this is so they can buy your products or service you have for sale. Additionly, if you do it correctly, you’ll build relationships with people on your list.

This in turn will let you not only sell to them, but open opportunities, perhaps, joint ventures, or help you solve a problem, etc.

Here are a few recommendations for doing this the right way:

#1 – Use a good sequential autoresponder to automate and manage your list. There are a few good autoresponder services available. Two of the more popular are:

Aweber http://www.trinale.com/recommends/aweber.php

GetResponse http://www.trinale.com/recommends/getresponse.php

If you want total control, you can purchase the software, install and maintain your list on your own server. I personally use:

AutoResponse Plus http://www.trinale.com/recommends/arp.php

#2 – Create or get rights to an autoresponder series that combines both information and a sales pitch for a single product. Don’t mix up a lot of different products or you’ll dilute the power of repetition.

If you’re no good at it or if you are nervous about writing, you may have to farm out the task. You can go to a website like Elance to find someone willing to work with you at very reasonable rates.

Freelance Writing http://www.freelancewriting.com/elance/

The autoresponse series automates the building of a relationship between you and the people on your list. Once it concludes, you can either start it all over again, or you can simply send them periodic emails that relate to the same topic.

Advanced hint: you can combine several series sequentially. For example, emails 1 – 5 could be about product #1. Email 6 could tell what you just covered and set up Emails 7 through 15 that could sell product #2. Email 16 could set up selling product #3 and so forth.

#3 – Sign up with various affiliate programs that YOU have reason to like. It is a must that you respect these programs or it will come back to bite you in the long run. Your credibility is at stake so do your homework here. Now as you sign up for these, you can incorporate them into your AR series.

#4 – Similar to #3, sign up for various multi-level programs. Again, make sure you like and respect them or your credibility is sure to suffer. The beauty of these programs is that you begin to leverage the work of those who sign up under you (your downline). If you attract go-getters, this can pave your way to a very impressive passive income.

Once you have at least the first two items in place, you can now start promoting your site. You’ll need to come up with reasons for people to sign up for your ezine, but that subject (copywriting) is beyond the scope of this article, and we’ll cover it soon in another email.

As people sign up for your list, they’ll start receiving your series. You won’t have to mail them individually. They’ll just plug themselves in and the system does the rest.

The power of this system is that while you do a good deal of work to get it set up, once it is set up, you should have very little to do, other than to tweak it here and there to make it perform better.

With the time you will eventually get, you be more able to promote your site. And as people get into your funnel, you start making money.

Then you can begin tweaking your sales copy, increasing the effectiveness of your ads, and more.

Do this and you’ll enhance your business far beyond the traditional ways. You’ll generate momentum that persists even if you take some time off, you’ll automate the building of relationships with members of your list, and you’ll be able to build on what you’ve got.

When it comes to public speaking, do you welcome the opportunity or do you run for cover? Do you accept each chance presented or do you make up a long list of reasons to be excused from the task? If you answered NO to these questions, it is important for you to read this because public speaking presents some very positive development opportunities for you and there are things you can do to overcome your fears of public speaking.

So what can you do if you do fear public speaking? Here are ten (10) strategic tips to overcome that fear and make public speaking easy.

#1: Develop a game plan for your public speaking assignment. Decide what positive outcomes you want to achieve. Visualize your successful presentation.

#2: Know the room where you will be speaking. Become familiar with the physical features, the mike, the seating, the staff, etc.

#3: Make sure you are energized and focused on your speaking engagement as you enter the room. Taking deep breaths can help to calm nervousness.

#4: Develop an attitude that your speaking engagement is a “conversation with your audience,” that makes it more personal.

#5: Avoid standing behind a podium when speaking because it disconnects you from your audience. Stand to the side of the podium or wander the room or stage when speaking.

#6: Make sure you know your audience by researching who will be there while preparing for your public speaking appearance.

#7: Make direct eye contact with individuals in the audience. Again, this increases your “connection” with your audience.

# 8: Be positive about questions and if you don’t know the answer to a question, admit it and do not try to fake an answer. Not knowing an answer gives you an opportunity to confer with others and then get back to your audience later with an answer.

#9: Learn by doing. Take advantage of public speaking opportunities to improve your performance by accepting public speaking engagements. The additional experience will help build your confidence.

#10: Work with a coach to improve your public speaking skills.

Your children are the most important things in your home. It is important that you take care of them and provide them with their own area to live in and take responsibility for. When you create a space for your children it gives them a place to call their own and makes them feel more comfortable in the home. One way to designate a place for your children to play is by putting childrens furniture in different places of the home. Things like childrens chairs can be a great addition to your home because they can be purchased to match the style, interests, and size of your children.

When you are choosing childrens chairs for your children you will want to keep their interests in mind. It is easy to overlook the opinions of a child but by choosing themes that they like you may be making the space more comfortable and inviting for them. This does not mean that your child has to make every decision on which furniture you put in their area but it does mean that you should keep their likes in mind as you choose furniture for them.

If you are in the market for childrens chairs and other furniture you may want to start your search on the Internet. The Internet is a great resource when looking for childrens furniture because it allows you to look through the inventory of many different stores without visiting the actual store. You will have the same access to products that you would if you visited the store in person but will be able to do your shopping much more quickly. Another huge benefit that the Internet offers is that you have the option to ship the furniture directly to your home. It is tough to beat an online store that allows you to shop in your pajamas and will deliver your packages directly to your front door.

As you look for childrens chairs you will want to keep quality in mind. It is important to choose furniture for your children that is made from quality materials and made to last. Children can be hard on things so it makes durable products that can last through several children that much more important to buy.

Involve your children in the process of purchasing furniture for them as much as you can. Even if you just have your child at your side as you look at childrens chairs they will feel important and probably like the furniture more when it arrives.

Childrens Chairs are ergonomically made for a child. To find more information on Kids Chairs, visit http://www.LittlePeoplesCove.com. We provide children with great old fashion fun and excitement, while teaching them skills for the future.

Exercise is an activity many of us want to or mean to do but do not get around to, due to lack of time, self-defeating negativity or just plain laziness. But all is not lost — solution is at hand if you invest in a good home gym.

The most important thing when buying a home gym is for you to first decide on your workout goals and requirements. There are different training methods for the various areas of your body. such as for your legs, calves, shoulders, chest, arms, back or abs etc. Some people exercise for overall fitness while others prefer to focus on toning and strengthening specific areas of their body. Depending on your focus and requirements your home gym equipment may be as simple as comprising of only barbells, weight-plates and racks, to more complex multi home gyms.

Simple home gym equipments such as power racks are suitable mainly for simple weight training exercises but they lack versatility. Multi home gyms allow variety in your fitness regimen. A good home gym lets you perform many types of exercises from bench press and leg curls to sit-ups and butterfly.

Another thing to consider is that home gyms are usually used by more than one user in the household, so it is more cost effective to purchase one that best meets all the users’ requirements. It is more practical if the home gym provides more than one workstation with two or more weight stacks so that more than one user can workout at the same time.

Home gym equipments nowadays include frames, cables, pulleys and weight-plates. To ensure you purchase a good quality home gym, check that the frames are made of rustproof steel, and test the cables for strength and durability. It should have a good combination of weight-plates to suit different needs. The bench should be adjustable for perfect body positioning for different exercises. Also check whether the individual components come with a lifetime warranty.

Home gym costs can range from $350 to more than $3,500 depending on the complexities of your home gym equipment. You could also buy your home gym equipment in parts, and some brands even offer options for various additions. Buying home gyms can be mind-boggling so it is recommended that you go read up on home gym reviews by health and fitness experts to learn about the pros and cons of different home gym brands available on the market.

Pop-up ads are a form of online advertising on the World Wide Web intended to increase web traffic or capture email addresses. It works when certain web sites open a new web browser window to display advertisements. The pop-up window containing an advertisement is usually generated by JavaScript, but can be generated by other means as well.

A variation on the pop-up window is the pop-under advertisement. This opens a new browser window, behind the active window. Pop-unders interrupt the user less, but are not seen until the desired windows are closed, making it more difficult for the user to determine which Web site opened them.

For early advertising-supported web sites, banner ads were sufficient revenue generators, but in the wake of the dot com crash, prices paid for banner advertising clickthroughs decreased and many vendors began to investigate more effective advertising methods. Pop-up ads by their nature are difficult to ignore or overlook, and are claimed to be more effective than static banner ads. Pop-ups have a much higher click rate than web banner ads do (about every 14,000th popup ad is clicked on).

Pornographic web sites are among the most common users of pop-up ads. Some particularly vicious types of pop-up ads (again, most often seen in connection with adult entertainment sites) appear to have either been programmed improperly or have been specifically designed to “hijack” a user’s Internet session. These forms of pop-ups sometimes spawn multiple windows, and as each window is closed by the user it activates code that spawns another window — sometimes indefinitely. This is sometimes referred to by users as a “Java trap”, “spam cascade” or “Pop-up Hell” among other names. Usually the only way to stop this is to close the browser.

Opera was the first major browser to incorporate popup-blocking tools; the Mozilla browser later improved on this by blocking only popups generated as the page loads. In the early 2000s, all major web browsers except Internet Explorer (then the most popular browser and still as of 2006) allowed the user to block unwanted pop-ups almost completely.

In 2004, Microsoft released Windows XP SP2, which added pop-up blocking to Internet Explorer. Many users, however, remain unaware of this ability, or else choose not to use it. Many others are not able to use it at all, as they do not use Windows XP SP2, but older versions of Windows. Some users install non-Microsoft ad-blocking software instead.

“For fifty years we have been a developing nation. It is time we see ourselves as a developed nation.” This is the part of the speech of Dr Abdul Kalam in Hyderabad. Whenever we are talking about Developed nation, suddenly education comes to picture with other major indicators like the growth rate of the economy, birth rate, death rate, infant mortality rate (IMR), and literacy rate. These indicators are all interconnected with each other and the literacy rate has been the major determinant of the rise or fall in the other indicators. There is enough evidence even in Orissa to show that a low literacy rate correlates with high birth rate, high IMR, and decrease in the rate of life expectancy. The recognition of this fact has created awareness on the need to focus upon literacy and elementary education programmes, not simply as a matter of social justice but more to foster economic growth, social well-being, and social stability.

The Constitution of India casts an obligation on the State to provide free and compulsory education to all children up to the age of 14. The literacy rate in Orissa during 1951 was 15.8% against the all India average of 18.3%, which increased to 63.6% in 2001 against the all India average of 65.4%. While the male literacy rate of 63.1% in the State in 1991 increased to 75.9% in 2001, the female literacy rate increased from 34.7% to 51.0%. There has been a steady improvement in the literacy rates of the State over successive decades, which is a result of expansion of educational infrastructure both quantitative and qualitative.

In 1950-51, there were 9,801 Primary Schools with 16,525 teachers and 3.15 lakh students. There were 501 Upper Primary Schools with 2,569 teachers and 40,000 students. Also there were 172 High Schools with 2,247 teachers and 16,000 students. Since 1950-51, there has been a considerable expansion in the number of educational institutions, enrollment and number of teachers at all levels during successive plan periods. In 2003-2004, there are 44,416 Primary Schools with 52.54 lakh enrollment and 97 lakh teachers in the State. There is one Primary School for every 3.5 Sq.Km area. The state government has established 14, 233 Upper Primary Schools for each 10.94 km area in the State.

Issues of Concern

Education is the key to social & economic development of any society. It encompasses every sphere of human life. Level of literacy has a profound bearing on the level of human development. There are major issues, which are directly or indirectly concerned with the education in Orissa. First, the dropout rate in primary and upper primary schools is become a major issue of concern. In the same time dropout rate become a major setback in the increasing literacy rate which was at the primary stage 33.6%. But if you compare girls dropout rate with boys, the dropout rate for girls was 35.4% and for boys 31.9%. Dropout rate at upper primary stage was 57.5% in 2003-04. Out of them 56.5% boys dropped out in upper primary stage while 58.6% girls dropped out in the same year. Second issue is infrastructure of school buildings, which are in bad conditions. And the old or unsafe school buildings of our state are inadequate to meet the needs of school children. Many of them one-room (or even open-air) operations with poorly paid teachers.

Steps taken by the State Government

Orissa government has always made concerted efforts to provide education to all. Some major initiatives were taken to offer quality education for a brighter future not only for Oriyas but also for the state, at last for the nation. Some steps were directed towards the reform and renewal of state’s education system. In the same time there has been a considerable expansion in the number of educational institutions, enrolment and number of teachers at all levels during successive plan periods.

The central and state governments have been expanding the provision of primary formal and non-formal education to realise the goal of Universilisation of Elementary Education (UEE). Elementary education is recognised as a fundamental right of all citizens in India. The directive principles of state policy envisage UEE as one of the major goals to be achieved and mandated in a timeframe. As per guidelines adopted at the national level, the State aims at providing access to Primary Schools within one kilometer and Upper Primary Schools within three kilometers from habitations having 300 or more and 500 or more respectively. In order to achieve the goal of Universalisation of Elementary Education and to improve the quality, steps have been initiated to engage more 9,563 para teachers under State Plan.

Government of India’s flagship programme ‘Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan’ was launched on nation-wide scale to universalize elementary education by providing for community ownership and monitoring of the school system. The objectives of the programme are compulsory Education to all the Children of 6-14 years age group by 2007. Under the programme, there were 780 new primary schools, 2,771 new upper primary schools were opened and. 25,594 Swechasevi Sikhshya Sahayaks were appointed in 2003-04. The Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan programme calls for community participation through effective decentralisation – involvement of Village Education Committee (VEC), Members of Panchayat Raj institutions and Womens’ group. It ensures transparency and accountability of the school system to the community. To lesson the burden of Directorate of Higher Education, the state government has been established three regional Directorates in Bhubaneswar, Berhampur and Sambalpur. Regional Directors of these Directorates have been vested with similar powers of Director of Higher Education. Today, access to the qualitative education is reducing in Orissa. The reason is a lack of budget, weak governance and decline of physical infrastructure, shortage of teachers and their low salary, obsolete teaching plans, poverty and malnutrition, and absence of parents and society participation.

Hurdles to achieve the Goal

Funds become major hurdle for every developmental programme in Orissa. In some cases, it is surplus and government cannot utilize the fund within the required timeframe. In the other side, it is deficit. In every step and in every stage, we extend our hand in front of the Central government, financial institutions for funds. How do you education keep the education aside? The government does not have money for primary education. Well, the fiscal deficit is surely a problem, but that could not be excused during a downturn if it is used for opening up the way to developed nation. The Government of Orissa fully endorses the approach on universalisation of elementary education and the scheme ‘Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan’ should be given the highest priority. But when we are heading towards success of the programme, we do not have fund to provide the study materials to the students. With the assistance from Central Government, the Orissa Government has been providing the study materials every year. For a state like Orissa, the government needs 3.5 crores books for the students up to VII class.

Generally, the government was sanctioned eight crores every year. In the current year budget, only four crores has sanctioned, whereas approximately 30 crores required for the printing of study materials. Now, It is become routine issue for the government to sanction inadequate fund and demand more money at the neck of the moment when the books should reach at the end user. This is not only creating an obstacle in the time bound programme but also spoil the valuable time of the students for struggling with the course without courseware. Here I have highlighted one issue, which is occurred in every year at the beginning of academic year. Government has been compromising the issue without thinking the future of the small kids.

Though it is a routine issue, then why Government is not considering this issue seriously?

Some other issues like educational infrastructure and appoint good teachers with good salary are also taken into consideration. When we are appointing good teachers for this programme, we should think about the other side of the coin (i.e good remuneration). The state government appointed 40,846 Shiksha Sahayaks under several schemes including District Primary Education Programme (DPEP) and Sarba Siksha Abhijan (SSA). Due to deficit budget the Shiksha Sahayaks are compromising with the situation and ready to work in less salary (i.e. Rs 1500 per month), which is less than the wage of a bonded labour. In spite of that the State Government is unable to provide their share at least in time to the Shiksha Sahayaks. How would we expect quality education from a teacher who is struggling to survive in this expensive society? Recently, the State Government has decided to hike the monthly honorarium of the Siksha Sahayaks from Rs 1500 to Rs 2000. This decision was taken at a high-level meeting presided over by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on October 20. This will cost the State Exchequer an additional Rs 25 crore per year. Obviously, zero percent credit goes to the State Government. Though Central Government is supporting 75 percent of the estimated expenditure, this additional hike will be added to the aided account. If Sarba Siksha Abhijan is become a flop programme, then the credit goes to the state government. The major barrier is deficiency of fund.

Conclusion

We are compromising in every step of our life. How many days will we live with ‘compromise’? Let us stop compromising with our future and with our future generation. At least the State Government should give up elementary education. Education makes man a right thinker. It tells man how to think and how to make decision. When the absolute number of literate people in the state is steadily rising year after year, then where are those instincts of a literate person? Where is your voice against the backward step of the government? But moving beyond educational programmes requires much political will and public pressure. Unfortunately, elementary education continues to receive low priority from those in power. While State Assembly discusses trivial issues, issues related to elementary education gathers dust. If government will not take any rigid step then all children of 6-14 years age group in school by 2003, all children to complete 5 years of schooling by 2007and all children to complete 8 years of schooling by 2010 will become a utopian dream for us.

Creating a job.search cover letter doesnt need to be a laborious process. Effective cover letters are short, skimmable and easy to read (a good rule of thumb no matter WHERE your cover letter is going) three to four paragraphs tops.

If you are answering an ad, address the requirements in the ad and speak to how your experience relates to each. If you are sending the letter cold, make sure your letter reflects some research on the company, how your background relates, and why you have an interest in that company.

But instead, what generally happens is this. Bob is looking for a job. He looks through the paper, finds a bunch of ads that sound interesting, and circles them all with red pen. Then he sweats out the cover letter, personalizes each address, attaches his resume, mails them out, and congratulates himself on a job well done.

Then nothing happens. He wonders why. He shrugs his shoulders and starts all over again. On the other hand, Bob could take control of his career and set out to find his perfect job.

First, he gives some careful thought to his previous jobs: which ones he’s liked and why, which ones he hasn’t liked and why, where did he excel – or not, and why he left each one, what his supervisors were like, what his job description was in each place. That begins to give him a clue about what motivates him, who he is, under what circumstances he functions productively, and what he’s looking for in his next job.

Then he begins to look for companies that fit this profile – whether they have ads in the paper or not. Not all companies advertise their openings. Frequently openings are still in the contemplative stages, such as an expansion or confidential replacement. Then he sits down to write his cover letters. Two would suffice, with a bit of personalization in each: one for companies actively advertising their openings, and one for companies that he’s researched which sound appealing to him.

In the first paragraph, Bob says why he’s writing to that particular company. Instead of “I am writing because I saw your ad,” he writes, “I am responding to your ad because…..”. For the letters he’s sending cold: “I am sending you a copy of my resume because in researching companies that I feel I could be of benefit to….” (as opposed to “…companies I think I’d like to work for…”) Emphasis goes on the benefit to the company. Not the benefit to you.

In the second paragraph, Bob personalizes it. This is the paragraph (or two) that varies with each company or ad. Two or three sentences will do it if there’s one paragraph, or add another
paragraph of about the same length. This part comes from the heart. Why are you writing this company? What’s it got to do with what you do and who you are? It needn’t be a long introspective story – but if there’s something specific in the ad or about the company that appeals to you, speak to it.(And if there isn’t, why are you writing them?)

The third paragraph winds everything up. And don’t forget to be pro-active. Give the person to whom you are writing about 10 days to receive the letter and contact you (which probably won’t happen because things usually don’t move that fast), and then follow up. State the date you will be doing so, and then DO IT on that date!

Don’t think you can get away with a generic cover letter. You can’t. They’re spotted at 100 steps, especially by recruiters and human resource people. And they don’t put you to the top of the pile.
Is all this a lot of trouble? Yes, it is. But that’s how you stay in control of your career: by going those extra steps. A personalized cover letter gets you remembered. Writing to the person by name gets you remembered. Saying you’ll follow up and then doing so on the date indicated, gets you remembered.

That gives you much better odds than ending up at the bottom of some pile on a desk. Because if you’re called in to interview, then YOU are part of YOUR deciding process. If you go generic, skip the salutation, and wait around, you blend into the woodwork. You won’t even have a chance to reject the company if they’ve already rejected you.
