Finance sounds like a heavy term. It seems to be a thing only for big businessmen or imposing tycoons. This sounds to be not much of a bother to the ordinary person.

If this is the attitude, then it is time to change it. One must see finance in a different light and make things work in a different level.

What Is Finance?

Finance can be defined in many ways. Broadly, however, finance pertains to money and to the many ways it can be managed and controlled. This is the necessary money to support an endeavor or to further pursue a profitable venture.

Thus, taking on this definition, finance is a concern for everybody. It is not about big businesses only.

Why Is Finance Important?

Finance is crucial in any household and to any individual that has a future to look forward to. Here are the many ways by which finance will be significant:

Security
Security is important. This will ensure that no matter what happens, there is some ground to depend on still.

Proper financing can make the household secure from any undesirable possibilities. Like when somebody loses a job, proper allocation of the money beforehand should ensure enough cash to get by while the times are rough.

Growth
Finance also plays a big role in the advancement of any endeavor. For example, a small business can grow larger if the owner knows how to control the money that comes in for a bigger enterprise.

It is not enough to settle with just getting by in everyday. There must be some growth in the pool of wealth and resources that the household depends on. With this, success is a big possibility.

Protection
Good management of the monetary resources should also include the protection. This is a big necessity, especially for those who managed to propagate their resources.

Stability
Good financing also helps in giving the individual or the household a stable future. This means that it a happy retirement can be expected.

There are no debts or obligations to worry over. There are no suits or liabilities to watch out for. The future promises just the plain enjoyment of the fruits of your labor.

Proper Financing

There are many ways to implement a successful financing scheme. It, however, depends on the circumstances of the person and of the situation.

Here is a list of some general guidelines to take care of the finances:

1. Live within the means of the household. Do not spend too much on the unnecessary. Bank on a future first before indulging.

2. Save money. Always keep a portion of the resources for savings purposes. In the long run, this will provide a bigger pool of wealth for the household.

3. Avoid loans or credit cards as much as possible. There are some schemes that promise good offers on loans. However, if not entirely needed, stay away from this. This may only turn into a liability later on.

4. Always think of improving the current situation. This is a must to move up the ladder to success.

5. Study carefully the options. You may have the right vision, but you have to take the right steps towards that. This is also a good way to avoid wasting money and effort on fruitless agenda.

Conclusion

Finance is a matter that concerns everybody. Take it seriously.

Outboard motors on boats where developed as a self-contained unit with engine systems and a propeller. It is mounted at the stern or rear of the boat and is the most common way to propel small boats. It provides steering controls and is designed to pivot and control the orientation of the propeller.

Acting as a rudder rather the propeller provides power; the transmission leg stays in the water. When boats are about to enter shallow water or be taken off the water, the outboard motor should be tipped forward over the mount so that you can elevate the propeller and take the transmission shaft out of water. This will avoid getting too much seaweed or hitting rocks that could possibly damage the boats motor.

As for the history of outboard motors, a Norwegian-American inventor named Ole Evinrude in 1909 created the first outboard motor. Most outboards have two-stroke cycle engines because they are so simple and have reliability. They are also low cost and have high power-to-weight ratios. It is important that you watch the weight, especially weight that is near the stern. Boats will impede their handling if you dont pay attention to the distribution of weight in the boat.

The two-stoke cycle engine has high emissions and causes some environmental concerns that have added cost to the development of the technology. That is why some people tend to go to the four-stroke cycle outboard motor. It has meet all expectations based on emissions standards and fuel. It costs less for these motors and to run them. However, weight issues are more important in a four-stroke cycle so you have to pay attention to whats in the boat and where.

Some of the companies that make outboard motors are Mercury, Briggs and Stratton, Evinrude, Johnson, Honda, Yamaha, Mariner, Nissan, Suzki, OMC and there are other smaller and less known companies that make outboard motors. You can purchase an outboard motor online at varies sites and you can purchase parts for most brands if that is necessary. There are over a hundred different dealers that are located online that guarantee you an outboard motor that will work for your boat and that will add some quality to your boating or fishing trips.

Many people who have a boat that has outboard motor uses, it to fish on a lake. Since most boats have to be small to have an outboard motor, it is not used to often for boating. They are nice to have instead of having to paddle, but you should always have paddles located onboard because your motor may overheat or stop running. Instead of getting stuck on the lake, its best to have a back up plan even if your motor has consistently shown durability and use.

A legally binding contract will exist between two people or companies where one agrees to do or sell something in exchange for something else (usually money). With very few exceptions, it does not have to be in writing but the reason why they should put in writing is that otherwise it may be one person’s word against another either as to whether the contract exists or as to its exact terms. Even if it is in writing, the meaning must be clear and not capable of misinterpretation – therefore, you need to make sure it is as simple and “to-the-point” as possible.

Obviously, you are in effect entering into contracts all the time (e.g. buying a newspaper, going into a car park, buying a drink) and you cannot put everything in writing. You will therefore have to exercise some degree of discretion as to when to put something in writing – if in doubt, ask your solicitor. Some contracts have to be in writing (e.g. for interests in land or for finance) – soon electronic contracts will be sufficient for these purposes.

You may need general “terms & conditions” depending on your business needs and you should discuss whether or not you do in fact need them with your solicitor. If you already have standard terms & conditions, you need to make sure that:

they are not just copied from someone else – the terms may be inappropriate if they were copied from someone operating slightly differently from you and they may be out of date and/or defective (plus it is a technical breach of copyright too).
they are drawn to the other person’s/company’s attention before the contract is entered into as otherwise they will not usually be binding on them.
A good practice is to get a copy of your contract letter or standard terms & conditions signed by them – do not rely on the terms being printed on the back of invoices. Try and avoid conflict between your terms and those of your supplier or customer by agreeing whose terms are to apply. Also make sure that agreed terms between your and a supplier are not at odds with your own terms with your customers (e.g. so that your supplier will not accept faulty goods after one week from delivery whereas yours specify two weeks).

Some common clauses include:

Price, date payment is due and method of payment
Delivery details and non-liability of seller for delay beyond its control
Seller retaining ownership till goods are paid for but requiring buyer to carry risk for them and to insure them
Limitation on seller’s liability
Some important points relating to terms & conditions

no matter what a contract says, certain rights are implied by law or by statute (always seek proper legal advice on such matters) e.g. the goods must be “fit for the purpose” for which they are sold and be of “suitable quality”. Goods must match samples (unless “tolerances” are specified) or descriptions in promotional literature, so it is important samples are truly representative and brochure claims are realistic. If the goods are not suitable for the intended use but the buyer insists on buying them despite that, confirm your warning in writing immediately. The same broadly applies to on-line selling.
if you deal with private consumers as your customers or clients (including as a landlord) any standard terms (whether in a letter or in a printed contract) are subject to the European Directive on Unfair Contract Terms and as such they must be “fair”, otherwise they will be of no legal effect whatsoever. Bear in mind that with consumer sales in the EU, no matter what your terms say, local consumer laws will override any contrary terms in your contracts. See our article on the new jurisdiction rules for electronic consumer contracts.
if you print terms on the back of something, make sure that on the front you refer to their presence on the back (e.g. “See over for our standard terms of trading”).
trading on the Internet brings special considerations – terms need to be sufficiently prominent and well-placed to be effective. Effectiveness will depend upon individual circumstances – in some cases it will be necessary to make the terms appear in a “pop-up” window then force customers to scroll down before having to expressly click an acceptance button.
if you sell goods or services on the Internet or by telephone or mail order, the Consumer Protection (Distance Selling) Regulations 2000 will apply. See our lay overview of the Regulations or our detailed technical briefing.
from January 16th the EU Ecommerce Directive is supposed to be effective and contracts and web sites must be constructed with this in mind as its requirements are strict: see our article on the Directive

Pay day advances are all about having the cash to haul you out of trouble. The reasons why you need the cash could be numerous. It could be because your planning went haywire or maybe because you forgot to account for certain expenses. It could also be that your tight financial situation is actually because of no fault of yours as some unexpected expenses have come up or maybe your house or your car is in need of urgent repairs. On the other hand, you might want to take a payday loan for a much happier reason. You might plan to splurge on a birthday or an anniversary gift for someone special. Or maybe you are planning to go on a holiday and would like to have a little extra cash to have some fun. Whatever the reason, a payday cash advance can be a great way of getting the requisite extra cash. At the same time, even though a payday cash advance offers numerous benefits, it would help to be cautious when you apply for a loan.

The trouble creators
When you look for a payday advance USA, you can rest assured that you would have unlimited choice. Surely, each payday advance USA that is available would be extremely lucrative. But dont just get taken in by the lucrative offer; make it a point to look at what lies beneath. This implies that even though most advance payday service providers are quite dependable, there are certain cases where you might end up with a not so dependable lender. The biggest indicator that a lender is not dependable is if he refuses to be transparent about the terms and conditions of the loan. At the same time, the lender might tell you that getting an extension to pay back the loan is not a problem at all but would not disclose the extra fee or the interest that you would need to pay in this case.

If you are unable to pay back the loan, a lender might offer another loan in order to pay off the first. In this case, it becomes imperative to compare the fee that you would be paying for an extension on the first loan and the interest rate of the latter. If the lender is not dependable, then in most cases, the second option would turn out to be more costly. So, take your decision after due consideration.

A piece of advice
You definitely should be extra cautious while getting a payday cash advance. Try not to borrow more than half of amount you would get in your next paycheck. As if you do so, you would be left with no cash to see you through next month and as a result, you might end up in trouble again. So while you take an informed decision about the payday advance service, also take a careful decision about the loan amount.

You might not think about it on the pages of your books, or newspapers, but without the ink, there wouldn’t be anything but blank sheets of paper. Ink can be taken for granted, but its value is beyond question, and sometimes very evident.

The original inks in the dawn of what we know as ‘printing’ were composed of simple elements. Natural products like nut shell oils and the defensive liquid of the squid made useful dyes that were funneled into the old ‘nib’ tips of pens long before the ball-point and felt tip revolutionized handwriting. These days, inks have chemical additives meant to protect the ink from smearing or fading away, as technology aids the printing process. From the gigantic volume of glossy advertising reaching your mailbox, it seems that ink is being poured onto reams of paper each day in vivid, eye-catching combinations, and in recent times people have begun to see ink prices climb.

Did the ancient traders of the natural inks and dyes charge an arm and a leg for those useful fluids? In any case, the problem of affordable ink is growing, particularly since household printers became common. It seems like every house has a printer, but everyone complains of shelling out the money to refill this amazing machine with the simple stuff that it needs to print on paper. The fine machinery of the modern printer is useless without ink.

Owners of these dormant machines have several options. They can buy the new refills, which are sometimes exorbitantly expensive, or they can buy another printer. In a surprising number of cases, people have found new printers at prices below those of ink refill cartridges. This has a lot to do with the complexity of marketing, but it also underscores how important and valuable ink is in printing.

Now some companies have come up with another choice; users can refill the ink cartridge itself at a discounted rate. Dealers apparently buy ink in bulk and dispense it efficiently. New problems of consumer demand necessitate such complexities. Cartridges, for example, are made with built-in sensors that can indicate an empty cartridge before all of the available ink has run out.

Another innovation is soy ink, which is a more natural alternative to petroleum-based inks that aids in the recycling of the printed material. Alternative inks like soy can make the pricing of ink more flexible and give the consumer more choices in a market that has become considerably complex. Gone are the days of standard refill containers and easy office stocking. These days, it pays to consider your choices very carefully when it comes to that crucial liquid packed into a vial, bottle or cartridge. Ink has definitely become a valuable commodity.

Getting the most out of an auction is something that perplexes a lot of people. The reason for this is that people generally find something along the nature of a collectible auction as something that is foreign to them. Most of the images of a collectible auction is the very stereotypical image that they have become accustomed to seeing on TV or in the movies. In these mediums, auctions, auctioneers, and the auction emcee are usually portrayed as aloof. This makes people a little unsure of entering an auction site.

Los Angeles, Ca.—Two well known U.S. Refractive Surgeons have teamed up to launch Focus On Independence in which eye surgeons provide free LASIK or vision correction surgery for quadriplegics. Robert K. Maloney of Los Angeles and Daniel Durrie of Kansas City have enlisted up to 40 surgeons around the country in the program which is intended for patients over the age of 18 who have suffered spinal cord injury and have lost the use of their hands and/or arms, making it difficult or impossible to take off their glasses or contacts without assistance.

There are a number of great websites that are dedicated to helping you find a cheap digital camera. Some of these can help you save a lot of money on your camera purchases. A lot of these websites will take the effort out of finding a cheap digital camera as they search the Internet and physical stores for the best deals for you.

There are so many sales, bargains, coupons and deals available to enable you to get a truly cheap digital camera that it can seem impossible to choose between them so it is important to find a website that gives reviews on the products as well as the vendors themselves. A cheap digital camera may not be such a good deal if it turns out that the vendor has poor levels of customer service.

Obviously, a lot of the cheap digital camera deals are constantly changing and having the latest information can be the difference between getting the camera you want and having to pay more because the offer has ended. Many websites have a number of services to help get the information about current cheap digital camera offers to you as fast as possible. You can choose to have specific cheap digital camera deals sent to you via email, mobile phone or palm text message or RSS feed amongst others. These alerts can be customized so that you can choose to only receive cheap digital camera offers that relate a particular vendor, brand of camera or area if you want to. You can also set the parameters that you would class as being cheap digital camera prices because everyone has a different budget.

Many people underestimate the influence that coupons and rebates can have on their search for the best cheap digital camera deal. It is a good idea to take the time to check through those available as they can make a big difference. Again, check to make sure that these are not subject to an expiry date or you may miss out on cheap digital camera offers.

At the end of the day there is nothing better than finding other shoppers who have bought a particular cheap digital camera. They can give you truly unbiased views about the camera itself and the place where they purchased it. You may want to pay a few dollars more to get a relatively cheap digital camera from another supplier if they have a lot of bad reviews from customers.

Do you ever get the feeling that you’re not progressing at your fastest possible rate? Do you ever feel overwhelmed? How about the feeling that you’re not really 100% sure if you’re improving or not? If you do…you’re definitely not alone!

Learning guitar can be a bit overwhelming at times. There are literally enough things to learn to keep anyone busy for MANY lifetimes. This can be both a blessing and a curse. It’s a blessing because you’ll never run out new and exciting things to learn. It can also seem like a curse because you’ll never get to the bottom of your “to do” list! So how do you keep motivated and constantly have the feeling of progress? That’s where speed goals come in…

I’ve been using speed goals for about the last 15 years. They are one of the most powerful weapons in my guitar practice arsenal. Let’s take a look now at what they are, and what benefits you’ll gain by setting speed goals.

***What Are Speed Goals?****

A speed goal is a goal that you set to reach a particular metronome setting. For example, you might say that your speed goal for a particular sweep picking exercise is sixteenth notes at 160bpm (beats-per-minute). You would practice that exercise daily until the target speed has been reached.

An effective speed goal has these qualities…

1. No Deadline. Unlike traditional goal setting, there are no deadlines with speed goals. This is because you must allow your technique to develop in a relaxed and natural way. If you set a deadline, you may be tempted to increase your metronome speeds at too fast a rate in order to meet the deadline. Result? You’ll basically program tension into your muscles and most likely get frustrated.

2. Challenging. Your speed goal must be challenging. It should be fast enough to make you grow as a player. For example, if you can currently play an exercise at 120bpm then something like 144bpm would make a good goal. Once you reach 144bpm, then you might set another speed goal of around 160bpm. See how this works?

3. Realistic. Don’t set your speed goal too high. If you can currently only play an exercise at 120bpm, then 240bpm would probably be too high. I generally set speed goals that I think I can achieve within a month or two.

***Benefits of Speed Goals***

A few benefits of setting speed goals include…

1. They give you something to work towards. This helps you to stay motivated and enthusiastic about your guitar practice.

2. They give you a feeling of progress. You’ll feel great each time you reach a speed goal. These small wins help you feel like you are progressing steadily towards the larger goals that you have set for your guitar playing.

3. They tell you when you can STOP practicing an exercise. Once you’ve achieved your goal you can then move onto something else. The speed goal stops you from mindlessly practicing an exercise that you have already mastered.

4. They give you measurable results. If your speeds are increasing then you have quantitative proof that you are improving. You KNOW for sure that you are getting better. This helps you become more confident about your guitar playing.

I encourage you to set a few speed goals now. If you set them consistently, I think you’ll be amazed at how fast you’ll progress.

Are you thinking of taking out a personal loan! If the answer is yes then you have to ask yourself some questions first. This will make sure that the loan you choose is the right one to suit your needs.

Below are some of the most common questions you should be asking.

Do I really need a personal loan?
You have to ask yourself if the purchase you are about to buy is necessarily, as you may have this debt for a year or two.

Can I afford to takeout a personal loan?
This is properly the most important question you will have to ask yourself, debt advisers says that a non- mortgage monthly repayment debt should not be anymore than 5% of your net income. This is the total you walkout with after tax, say you take home 2000 a month then the most you should be paying back is about a 100 a month.

How much should I borrow?
Most lenders offer a cheaper APR on a larger loan; each lender has their different levels of interest rates and will change them with accordance to how much you borrow. Sometimes its best to up your loan just a small bit to get the best interest rate.
For example maybe you only want a loan of 4.500 your APR maybe 10.5% but if you go for a 5,000 loan the APR drops to 9.6%. So over all you may end up saving by taking out a bit more just something to watch out for.

Where do I go for a personal loan?
Most people think of the bank first nothing wrong with that, but know there are so many places to look. Everywhere you turn you see adverts for loans including the newspapers, TV, mail, supermarkets and the Internet. The competition at the moment from the lenders is great; they all want your business so there are some great deals on offer. You just have to look for them take your time and you are sure to get the best deal around

Will I be covered if I become ill or unemployed?
Most lenders will have PPI (payment protection Insurance) please check the policy carefully and ask questions. As not all these policies will cover you and they can be expensive, sometime its best to shop around for a different policy.

Can I pay my loan off early?
Yes you can and unbelievably 60% of people do, again check with your lender as some add on penalties for paying off your loan early. Some lenders charge two or three months interest unbelievable but true.

What happens if I get turned down for a loan?
First check why is it because your credit rating is poor or is it because youre asking for too much money. If your income is low you may be asking for too much, if this is the case reduce your request. If its poor credit rating check out why and try and sort that out first, before you reapply

Hopefully these answers will help you, just remember workout what you need the loan for first, then make sure you can afford to make the repayments. Take your time when looking for your personal loan, as there are some great deals out there at the moment.

Christian community website construction requires a lot of care and research since there has to be in depth information relating to various issues. These days, a number of communities operate their own website. It is not necessary that the same template be followed for other Christian community websites. However, some of the basic components of the Christian community website as described here could be followed. It will drive more visitors to the website apart from increasing its visibility on the worldwide web. The website should also be enabled with search engine optimization by using key words relating to Christian community.

The knife has come to symbolize to the modern men the essence of survival and the ability to provide all that is needed for survival with one simple and lethal tool. A good knife is indeed better than most material things, it can provide protection and the ability to hunt and prepare food, it can also help in building a shelter and creating small objects that are vital for survival.

A few generations ago, maybe even less than a hundred years ago, men would not leave their house without a proper knife, it was only common sense to take a knife with you wherever you went, you never knew into what situations you will run into, if you will get lost and will need to survive for a couple of days in the wild or if you will be surprised by some enemy or thief and will need to protect yourself.

For those of us that know knives it is a simple fact that no one knife can have all the features in it, every knife has its advantages and anyone using a knife will have to make his own decision as to what kind of things are important for him to have on his knife. It is not only the extra features of the knife that matter, it is also the way the knife itself is crafted and what it is made off.

Today most people are looking for a knife to serve them when they are away in natural for a few days, or sometimes a few weeks, they need something that is very basic and that will provide them with the safety that it could potentially help them in case something goes wrong.

Not long ago I read in the paper that a diver had to use his knife to protect himself against a shark, he did not stab the shark as it was trying to attack him, but simply hit the shark on his nose with the blunt side of the knife, this did the job and the shark run away, even though he didnt use his knife as it was planned to be used, this diver had the right instinct, and he went for his knife.

In any case, when you are out camping, hiking, fishing or diving you will probably consider buying yourself a knife, and you should think about what you need before you even set foot in the shop. Try and think of the environments you are going to be in, and your needs, sometimes someone does need to hunt with his knife, but does not need to prepared the food from the hunted animal, in some cases you will be walking through a jungle and you might want to use the knife to carve your way out of some thick bushes.

If you do your research and spend some time thinking of what you need you will have a better starting point, try and use the internet for information about different kinds of knives, I am sure you will be surprised from the wide verity of products out on the market. Happy hunting.

At the beginning, you will be offered plenty of advice and support to set up your business enterprise schemes often run seminars and give out free software to help you manage your accounting, for example. Local mentoring schemes can provide a useful way to make contacts with other people who have set up in business and excellent chances to network.

When it comes to tax and accounting, however, you may want to enlist the help of specialists. Particularly if your business has a large turnover or complicated finances, using an accountant can make a world of difference. While some people are put off by the thought of paying fees to accountants, the costs involved can actually be relatively low, and often your tax bill can be significantly reduced. Taking on an accountant may save you money as well as a lot of hard work! Some offer additional services, such as advice and auditing that could help to make your business more profitable.

If you run a business you are legally required to keep records of certain things. For example, if you employ staff you will need to keep PAYE records, and VAT records if you are VAT registered. All businesses must submit a tax return every year you can now do this online. If you have an annual turnover of over 5.6 million you are legally required to have an annual audit, which must be carried out by a qualified and registered auditor.

Choosing an accountant is a matter of knowing what you want from your relationship, and finding someone whom you trust to do the best job. While personal recommendations from family and friends are a frequent reason for choosing an accountant, you may also want to consider whether they have particular experience in your sector, how much the practice charges, and what additional services they may be able to offer you.

Qualified accountants must be registered with one of the professional bodies that regulate them:

Most of us over the age of 30 have at some point in time suffered from hemorrhoids. They are one of the most common medical ailments suffered by both men and women. Generally 80% of those who suffer with hemorrhoids are able to treat them with over the counter preparations and a few lifestyle changes. For others who suffer with external hemorrhoids surgery may be needed.

Internal hemorrhoids are generally symptom free. The most common symptom is blood seen covering the stool or on toilet paper. It is when these internal hemorrhoids prolapse to the outside of the anus that they become extremely painful and troublesome.

Depending on the severity of your hemorrhoids you may be able to obtain relief with the following methods: A sitz bath. Sit in a few inches of warm water for fifteen minutes two to three times a day. When you wipe do not use toilet paper, use a pad or cotton ball moistened with witch hazel. You can purchase pre moistened pads in the drug store. You can use an over the counter cream to help lessen the burning and itching. Do not use it over the time specified by the manufacturer.

Some hemorrhoids must be treated surgically. There are several ways this is done. The first is a rubber band ligation where a band is placed around the hemorrhoid to stop the blood flow to it. The hemorrhoid withers away within a few days. Sclerotherapy is when a chemical solution is injected to shrink the hemorrhoid. Hemorrhoidectomy, where the hemorrhoid is surgically removed is generally used in severe cases.

Other more long lasting measures to help you prevent a recurrence of hemorrhoids are to eat more fiber. Take a fiber supplement on a daily basis. Drink plenty of water to help keep your stools soft. Do not put off your urge to have a bowel movement. Do not sit for long periods of time on the toilet.

Please remember that any rectal bleeding should be evaluated by a physician.

Parents suspecting that their child might be suffering from autism should pay attention to any sign that may reveal the presence of the disorder. The signs of autism are best to be discovered during the childs first year of life, in order to minimize the harm caused by the disorder. Signs of autism can sometimes be spotted from the moment of birth, the child manifesting little responsiveness to stimuli, failing to anticipate movement and paying little attention to their mothers or caretakers.

It is very important to quickly see the first signs of autism, as this disorder is known to cause serious damage to the childs behavior, social interactions, communication skills and adaptability. Children with autism develop slower than normal children of the same age. Autistic children are also more vulnerable to some illnesses and conditions, such as allergies, respiratory insufficiency, digestive disorders and so on.

Autistic children are different from normal children judging by aspects like personality, skills and abilities. Their behavioral development is affected by the particularities of many environmental factors. It is difficult to diagnose an infant or a small baby with autism, as the signs of autism are very subtle at such an early age. Sometimes, however, parents are able to detect the presences of certain abnormalities in the development of their child. Although parents arent always able to tell exactly what makes their child different from other children of the same age, it is very important when they discover such behavioral particularities. At the opposite pole, some parents fail to notice any abnormalities in their childrens behavior, thinking that they might just develop slower than others.

An interesting form of autism is regressive autism. Many children seem to develop normally until they reach certain periods of their early childhood, when the first signs of autism suddenly occur. At this point, children experience a deterioration of their social interaction and communication skills.

The signs of autism in the childs first years of life are:

- poor responsiveness to their own name and selective responsiveness to sounds (children with autism may ignore certain sounds, while responding to others of the same intensity);

- difficulties in joint attention (autistic children dont usually follow the movements indicated by their parents and refuse to concentrate on objects that are shown to them);

- poor imitational behaviors (unlike normal babies, small babies with autism dont often imitate facial expressions and gestures like hand waving, smiling, making faces);

- lack of understanding of others feelings, difficulties in relating with other people (autistic children have poor emphatic skills and are often unable to show compassion to persons in distress; in most cases they ignore their parents when they fake an injury, showing no facial expressions that may reveal their concern);

- the inability of understand and play imagination games or pretend games (normal children like to pretend for instance that they are feeding a doll or they imagine themselves to be someone else; children with autism show no interest to such games, failing to imagine things to be different than they really are).

It is vital to pay attention to potential signs of autism in the development of small children. If a child is diagnosed with a form of autism at an early age, there are better chances of overcoming the undesirable effects of the disorder.

Some have said Einstein’s riddle is the worlds hardest riddle. It isn’t. The story is that Albert Einstein created it as a young man, and claimed that 98% of the world population couldn’t solve it. Though I’m not certain of the true origin, it is a tough one, and it is a good way to exercise your brainpower. Here it is:

- There are five houses next to each other on a street, painted five different colors.

- A person of different nationality lives in each house.

- The five home owners each drink a different beverage, smoke a different brand of cigar and keep a different pet.

Einstein’s riddle is simply this: Who owns the fish?

Of course, you need the necessary clues:

1. The British man lives in a red house.
2. The Swedish man keeps dogs as pets.
3. The Danish man drinks tea.
4. The Green house is next to, and on the left of the White house.
5. The owner of the Green house drinks coffee.
6. The person who smokes Pall Mall rears birds.
7. The owner of the Yellow house smokes Dunhill.
8. The man living in the center house drinks milk.
9. The Norwegian lives in the first house.
10. The man who smokes Blends lives next to the one who keeps cats.
11. The man who keeps horses lives next to the man who smokes Dunhill.
12. The man who smokes Blue Master drinks beer.
13. The German smokes Prince.
14. The Norwegian lives next to the blue house.
15. The Blends smoker lives next to the one who drinks water.

First of all, a chart is the most useful tool for riddles like this. Make a chart with five columns for the five houses, and five rows for house color, nationality, type of drink, type of cigar, and finally, pets. This gives you 25 boxes to fill in. Since clue #8 states the man in the middle house drinks milk, you can start by filling in that one.

Now you are on your own. This is a decent riddle, and especially fun for those who like riddles with systematic solutions. Even if you can’t get the solution, you’ll get a good mental workout doing Einstein’s riddle.

I have loved art for as long as I can remember. As a child I spent hour after hour doing art projects of all kinds with my mother and my siblings. We would paint, practice sewing or create things out of clay for hours on end. I never knew that the amount of art projects we worked on was abnormal until I got a bit older and heard all of my friends and school talking about their years of playing with trucks and action figures or being outside building forts. I guess our mother wanted us to be well rounded individuals so she started us on all things art from the start. I don’t remember exactly what kind of teen art I created during my formative years, but I do know that it wasn’t until recently that I learned to appreciate teen art.

To the surprise of no one that I knew, I decided to become an art teacher when I went to college. I loved art so much that I couldn’t think of a better way to spend my days than on teaching children and teens more about the things I loved. I enjoyed my elementary aged students immensely from the beginning. I loved their curiosity and I enjoyed the way they saw art. It was the teen art that my junior high aged students were creating that took me a while to adjust to.

The thing about teen art is that it is less than traditional and often it needs to be classified outside of any established genres of art. The teens in my art classes saw art in a much different way than I expected, and hence their work was much different as well. I would give them an assignment and they would create work so unlike what I had asked for and yet so creative that I couldn’t complain.

I have realized that teen art needs to be a genre of art all by itself. Why? I’ve determined that teen art is so unique because of the time of life that it represents. Teens are going through the ultimate time of transition, so it makes sense that their art would have a particular perspective and slant. And as different as teen art can often be, I have learned to appreciate it. I have learned to see it through the eyes of a teenager exploring the world and trying to make sense of their place in the world.

If you have a teenager who likes to play around with any art form, then you probably know exactly what I’m talking about with teen art. In fact, you’ve probably had similar issues in trying to recognize, define or categorize the art work that seems to make your teen come alive. My advice to you is this: teen art is something entirely of its own kind. Stop trying to make teen art into something else, and instead just enjoy it for what it is.

It was August 2003 and my team at the time, the Pittsburgh Steelers, was holding the first live scrimmage for training camp. As a rookie in the NFL I had practiced a number of times with the team, but this was the first time I was going to suit it up for a full contact and tackle goal line scrimmage. The set up was easy. The first and second team offenses would go against the first and second team defenses. The offense had four downs to score a touchdown. If they scored, they won; if they failed to score the defense won.
The first team offense and defense took the field first. The offense included Jerome Bettis, Hines Ward, Plaxico Burress, and Tommy Maddox who went against a defense consisting of Joey Porter, James Farrior, and Kendrell Bell. The opposing sides lined up against each other, the referee blew his whistle to start the play clock, Tommy Maddox called out the cadence, then the ball was snapped … from that instant, the phrase The Next Level was defined for me.

The Next Level is a phrase commonly thrown around by athletes referring to the ability to play in a professional arena such as the NFL, NBA or MLB. To me The Next Level is not a title you gain, e.g. Professional Football Player; it is more a state of mind, an attitude and way of thinking when competing. Therefore, I have come up with three characteristics that I believe all athletes must posses in order to achieve The Next Level.

1. Play, Practice and Think with 100% Effort. It is as simple as that. You should have one speed and one speed only – FAST! There is no such thing as half speed or walk thru. Regardless of what people say, that is how we practiced and prepared in the NFL. Mike Holmgren said it best one day while practicing in the middle of December while preparing for the playoffs, We run plays at full speed during the week so when the game comes it will be second nature and all you have to do is react.

2. Be Able to Flip the Switch Once the Whistle Blows. This is probably the most mental of the three characteristics. Just picture in your mind a Cheetah stalking a gazelle and how meticulous, careful and alert it is as it sets up its approach. Once that Gazelle notices it is being hunted and starts running, the Cheetah flips the switch and accelerates to incredible speeds. Within seconds it has the Gazelle in its grasp and the hunt is over. This is the same way you should approach every play. An average football play lasts an average of 10 seconds or less, but when that ball is snapped a literal switch should be flipped in your mind and every ounce of energy should be released at that moment.

3. Dominate. This one word sums up every quality of those who achieve The Next Level. To dominate simply means competing to be the BEST. Does it mean you have to be the best? NO! It just means you are working, preparing, practicing and believing YOU CAN be the BEST. You may never achieve it and if you do there will always be someone that will be better. But if you compete and approach everything with 100% effort, dedication, commitment, and hold yourself accountable, you will dominate. While I was playing with the Philadelphia Eagles during our run up to the Super Bowl in 2004, starting tight end and 3-time Pro Bowl selection Chad Lewis would always tell the team, Time to DOMINATE! That is literally how you should approach every conditioning drill, lift, practice, meeting and play as an athlete. You approach it no other way!!

When I witnessed the explosive power, speed and attitude that my teammates displayed that late summer day in Pittsburgh, I came to the conclusion that The Next Level is not a title you gain when you make it to the NFL, it is truly a state of mind and way of life for those that achieve greatness in athletics.
