One would think that an apparently bright guy like Silvio would know that a penchant for provocative speech and sartorial splendor are two of the most likely ways to inspire the average voter to take him down a peg. Apparently, being the effective but humble servant of the citizenry is not his cup of espresso.

Since Berlusconi was a forthright ally of our struggles in Iraq, we must now face the prospect that the newly elected Prime Minister will beat a speedy retreat.

Humanist Terrorists Nabbed In Miami; Planned To Plant Explosive Books

A group that calls itself humanist terrorists was apprehended by the FBI in a preemptive strike in Miami. The terrorist cell, which claims affiliation with the Middle Atlantic terror group all-Libraries, was infiltrated by an FBI operative.

The leader of the group confided to the informant that the members planned to plant explosive books in various locations throughout the United States, including the Sears Tower, a number of FBI buildings, and radical Muslim mosques.

2007 Nissan Versa: Gen “Y”, Take Notice

Automakers are clamoring to build and market cars to the Generation Y crowd which, loosely defined, and encompasses new drivers and mostly everyone who is under 30. Toyota threw the gauntlet down in 2003 when they introduced a line of cars under the Scion brand. Now, Nissan is responding and the Versa to be released during the summer of 2006 is their answer. Will the Versa compete successfully or be lost in a sea of Gen Y vehicles soon to flood the market? All of that is too early to determine, so lets take a look at the Versa and what the car has to offer to motorists.

A visit to Nissans website reveals much about the Versa. Unlike a certain Scion vehicle that takes its styling cues from a toaster, the Versa is aerodynamic and reminds me of the Toyota Matrix. Available as a four door sedan or five door hatchback, the Versa is expected to retail for around $12,000, the same price range as Scion vehicles. Like Scion, the Versa will be fairly well equipped to give motorists a value packed experience without having to add on several thousands more to the base sticker price in order to achieve a satisfactory and comfortable driving experience.

Still, one has to wonder how the Versa will compete against Toyotas soon to be released Yaris and the all new Honda Fit. Throw in new models expected from Dodge and Ford and add Chinese cars to the mix and the whole entry level market becomes saturated.

Ultimately, the Versa is a step in the right direction and a nice alternative to some of its boxy competitors. Gen Y drivers have another choice in the Versa and an alternative to Scion, Toyotas youth-oriented brand.

Part 2 The Negotiation.

Dependant on how this part of the process is approached it can be a stress free or stressfull experience.

All Media I’ve read on the subject recomend an adversarial role between you the customer and them the sales proffessional. The objective of course is to have a fair and equitable deal for all is it not?

Some recomend that the customer should give nothing away ( in the way of information which may put them in a weak negotiating position ) In all successfull negotiation there should be no WINNER, only both parties agreeing to mediate their position in order to find common agreement.

With this in mind and drawing from experience I would recommend a personable and pleasant
commencement of proceedings bearing in mind at this point you have already done your homework as suggested in part 1 and are in a position to at least know the vehicle you would like to buy and how much you are prepared to pay (as a fair price).

Lets assume that you have arrived at the garage where the car that you are interested in is situated. You park and wander over to the vehicle of your choice, a Ford Fiesta on this occasion, its the right age and mileage for you, the right colour and the price is within 300 of the Parkers recommended value. You are approached by the salesperson who introduces themself with,

“What can I do for you, my name is Peter”

What do you do?

I’ve seen customers respond in many different ways, some of which I’ve listed below

1. Ignore him and continue your inspection of the car (happens alot does nothing towards building a relationship with a person you may have to spend some time with in order to purchase the car and although you’ve given nothing away creates an atmosphere of dislike and awkwardness.)

2. Say “Nothing thanks just looking” Again this response creates an adversarial atmosphere and hard work on both parts will be required in order to regain even status.

3. Whats wrong with “Yeah Hi my name is Mr Graeme Smith I’ve come here to see this car and would like you to tell me something of its history” Not only is this a normal response but relaxes both parties and allows for a more laid back approach during the coming negotiation.

In my experience the customers who adopt this approach generally get the best deal rather than those who are extremely hard
and un co-operative.
